Medical Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive procedure that involves resurfacing the skin with a special wand and vacuum, removing the dead outer layers of skin. Removal of these layers stimulates blood flow, enhances oxygenation, increases healthy cell renewal, and collagen production. The result is smoother, younger looking skin.

Medical Microdermabrasion is very popular with patients for reducing fine lines, skin discoloration, acne, and enlarged pores. It is a quick and comfortable treatment that takes approximately twenty minutes to perform. Almost all areas of the body can be treated with microdermabrasion. The most commonly treated sites are the face, neck and hands. This technique has been featured in Vogue and Elle as the "lunchtime" peel because there is no downtime. After the procedure you may safely apply makeup and continue with your normal daily activities.

Insurance coverage
For patients under medical treatment for acne, select insurances may pay for microdermabrasions, depending on the individual’s policy, co-payments, and deductibles.

FAQ's:
What can I expect during a microdermabrasion treatment?
Your skin care specialist will begin by cleansing your skin with a Clarisonic® and preparing your skin for the treatment. Rogers Dermatology uses the latest technology with a Diamond Tome™ crystal-free microdermabrasion machine. This means you will have a thorough clinical treatment without the mess of crystals. We first pass over your skin with a mild diamond-tipped wand that is connected to a strong vacuum. After determining your skin’s tolerance, we continue with a more aggressive pass to finish the treatment. After the microdermabrasion is complete, a copper-peptide healing moisturizer is applied to the skin.

How should I care for my skin after a microdermabrasion?
Makeup may be applied immediately following the procedure. We recommend a gentle cleanser and moisturizer with an SPF of 30 or higher. Cleansing and moisturizing your skin is all that is necessary for 2-3 days after the microdermabrasion. After that, we suggest you continue your previous regimen that ideally includes a retinoid and/or antioxidant along with any preferred means of exfoliation such as a Clarisonic® or the Neova® Microdermabrasion Scrub.

What kind of side effects can I expect?
Most people experience mild redness immediately following the procedure that can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure and therefore the redness is minimal and temporary.
